This week started with a relaxing bank holiday at home, I tackled my garden and then took advantage of the £2 bus fare scheme and headed to Newcastle for a walk along the quayside with Maureen. The sun was shining and it was lovely to spend some quality time together.
I arrived at the office early on Monday morning for a briefing on the new Energy Security Bill which is all about the sustainability of UK energy. It will investigate carbon capture, offshore wind power and will be looking to ensure we have enough energy in place for future generations.
The week began with an early train to Westminster for an important briefing, then a defence question during which I supported the Minister for Defence, Ben Wallace.

Bank holiday Monday started nicely with breakfast in the garden as the weather was very pleasant. I then had a chance to catch up on emails and do some little jobs around the house.
Monday morning began the same as most weeks, with an early train to Kings Cross but this time I was in the fantastic company of Sandra Orr who was coming to Westminster as a representative from Blyth Town FC. We had been invited to the Community & Charities reception at 10 Downing Street.
It was good to meet with Kim McGuinness, Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner for the first time this week. We’ve been trying to get together for some time.
