Window on Westminster 2nd August 2023

Parliament is in summer recess and although it’s a real privilege to represent the people of Blyth Valley in Parliament and vote on new legislation I do get frustrated that I can’t always spend as much time in Blyth, Cramlington and Seaton Valley as I would like to.

Recently I had the privilege to host a tour of Parliament by group of young people in foster care in Poland who were in the Blyth Valley and the North East. A huge thank you to Lumo trains who sponsored their trip to London with free rail tickets.

Blyth Battery Vandalised

I’m shocked to hear that Blyth Battery has been vandalised. The Battery is an important historical site and one of the best-preserved coastal batteries in the UK. It’s a volunteer run museum offering free admission and without large resources.

After a busy weekend attending some fantastic local events, I hopped on the early train to London with a strong cup of coffee. Once in Westminster, I headed to the weekly ministers meeting to discuss ongoing Ministry of Defence matters.

I couldn’t make the historic ground-breaking event in Blyth this week because of Parliamentary commitments in Westminster but one of my team went along to represent me.

I travelled on the earlier train to London this week due to the situation in Russia. Once I arrived in Westminster, I went straight to a briefing with the MOD then on to the weekly ministers meeting to prepare for the MOD oral questions.

On Monday morning I jumped on the early train to London, I headed straight to the office for a constituency surgery then to the parliamentary briefing from the MOD.

Most of my time as an MP is spent working on projects to help our area and dealing with constituency issues for residents of Blyth Valley. I also have a role as a Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) in the Ministry of Defence led by Ben Wallace, Secretary of State for Defence.

Monday morning began without a long journey as I was already in London following attending a wedding at the end of last week. I had an early morning meeting with Defence Minister Ben Wallace ahead of the Defence debate later in the week.

It was a pleasure to welcome the MP for Berwick, Anne-Marie Trevelyan to Cramlington recently on a visit to Merit, an innovative construction company who are building England's first ever prefabricated hospital which will soon become the new Berwick Infirmary.
