Progress on the Northumberland is going really well and it will be open for passenger services this year. It was my pleasure to welcome the Minister of State for Rail, Huw Merriman MP to travel on the Northumberland Line route and visit some of the stations.
I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my predecessor as Blyth Valley MP, Ronnie Campbell. Ronnie was a good man who I know loved Blyth and all the people who lived and worked here.
Project Gigabit, the Conservative Government’s flagship policy to connect properties with the best internet speeds, has now upgraded broadband connectivity to more than one million properties.
I love being the MP for Blyth valley and I particularly relish it when things are really busy. These last couple of weeks have been amazing and there’s been lots happening in the constituency.
On Monday morning it was a nice change not to be up at 5am to catch an early train to London as I was based in the Blyth office for the entire week. My first visit was to meet Emma from Felix and Fern in New Hartley.
I am really pleased to see that after the twin shocks to our economy caused by the covid crisis and the war in Ukraine we have halved inflation, are growing the economy and reducing debt – making the Chancellors Autumn Statement for Growth possible.
My first visit of the week was to Cramlington Village Primary School as part of UK Parliament Week, the children were so enthusiastic and asked lots of questions about my role as an MP, in both Blyth Valley and in Westminster.
Usually, my weeks are spent down in Westminster focusing on delivering on your priorities through votes in the House of Commons Chamber and meetings with Ministers.
